Since starting this, I have learned that Families First has a newsletter called Nebraska Citizen. There is no affiliation between myself and Families First.
My preference is to be anonymous. However, in making this site work, I have to contact individual candidates. Most people want to know who they are communicating with. So I have no choice but to tell them who I am and what I am doing. As I have nothing to hide it doesn't matter. At the same time I am a bit concerned that eastern candidates will ignore someone from southwest Nebraska but so far cooperation has been good and that appears to be an unfounded fear. The internet seems to be a great leveling agent and with today's technology it doesn't really matter when where one lives.
My name is Steve Smith. I live in Imperial Nebraska. I have run for the state legislature twice. I lost twice. I worked in John DeCamp's office for a couple of years while I was in college. I care about policy. I want to know who is making the decisions and where they are coming from as they do so. I believe that our way of government is best protected when the process is open and transparent. I am most frustrated by elected and appointed officials that ignore the public.
This process is giving me more respect for the press. There is so much information out there that it is hard to organize it all and make sense of it. I can see how easy it would be for a busy reporter to get overwhelmed. There are so many candidates that it is hard to keep tabs on what each is doing without help from the candidate.
I own and operate Chase 3000, which is an internet service provider in southwest Nebraska. I provide service to Chase and Perkins counties in Nebraska and Phillips county in Colorado. I care a great deal about telecommunications policy.
I own and operate Pops Almighty. This company trades dry beans and popcorn.
I am the director and one of the founders of WaterClaim. This is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing information about groundwater. WaterClaim is extremely interested in water policy.
