Byars Plans to Challenge Term Limits
The Lincoln Journal and the Omaha World Herald are reporting that Senator Byars plans to challenge term limits. He and many other State senators are very unhappy that they are being forced to leave office. Senator Schrock makes mention of the term limits at almost every meeting that he speaks at. He inidicates that he will not be able act on people's requests because he will be removed from office after the 2006 session.
Even though the majority of the voters want term limits, most elected officials and most lobbyiests oppose term limits. Other notable opponents include the editorial staff of the Omaha World Herald.

Interesting that State Sen. Byars insists on filing a lawsuit against term limits when 60% of Gage County voters voted for term limits in 2000. Nebraskans have voted 4 times to implement term limits. Sen. Byars voted for an upcoming fiscal year budget that raises spending by 7.5% and frequently has voted to raise taxes. His attitude shows both petulance and arrogance both inside and outside the legislative chambers.

The state senators should respect and obey the wishes of the voters. If they want to continue the matter, they should've done so through their own initiative or petition, rather than a lawsuit.
