Jerry Bond Announces Bid for District 2 Seat

Avoca, NE – Jerry Bond, an Avoca dairy producer, has announced that he will seek the open District 2 seat in the Nebraska Legislature. The seat is being vacated by Roger Wehrbein who is unable to run for reelection due to term limits.

“Serving the people of my community as state senator would be a great honor,” said Bond.  “I am hopeful for the opportunity to use my years of experience in government and agriculture to help better the quality of life for all Nebraskans.”

Bond, a Republican, is a third-generation Nebraskan who currently operates the dairy farm started by his family in 1946. He cites this experience and continued leadership on statewide agricultural issues as his most significant qualifications.

“I’ve helped shape policy on the local, state, and federal levels and I think that kind of experience is critical during this unprecedented turnover in the legislature,” said Bond.

Bond has held elected positions with several state and national organizations.  He has served on the American Dairy Association/Dairy Council of Nebraska Board and currently serves as Chairman of the Nebraska Dairy Industry Development Board.  Bond has also served on the Corporate Resolutions Board for the Mid-America and Dairy Farmers of America and is co-author of a national Dairy Supply Management Program that has saved taxpayers more than $1.5 billion since its implementation.

Bond currently serves on U.S. Congressman Jeff Fortenberry’s Agricultural Advisory Committee and has worked closely with U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel, U.S. Senator Ben Nelson, U.S. Congressman Tom Osborne, U.S. Congressman Lee Terry, and former Governor Mike Johanns on agricultural issues.

“I’ve experienced the policy-making process from the inside,” said Bond.  “I think that knowledge will allow me to be an effective voice in the legislature.”

Bond and his wife Cathi have been married for 21 years and have three children.  He is active with his church and community as a 4-H leader and a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, and has volunteered as a coach for youth baseball and basketball teams for more than 20 years.
