Which legislative committees do you most want to be on?Appropriations and transportation are two areas that might allow me to make the greatest contribution to my district and my city (Lincoln), but I am still examining the scope and function of the committees.
Candidate Statement I believe that the state needs to provide a high quality education to our students to prepare them for the demands of our economy and to improve the quality of life in our state. I support small business formation and growth as a primary means of increasing employment opportunities and developing companies based on new technologies and new ideas. I support zero-based budgeting wherever possible in state agencies to increase efficiency. Every dollar that is wasted or otherwise used inefficiently requires additional taxation.

I support tax reform. Efficient government must be the standard of our state government.

As a Republican, I believe that government should provide services that cannot be provided by the private sector, but that free enterprise and entreprenuership should be encouraged and supported throughout the economy. I support the right of workers and employees to be treated fairly, and I believe the state needs to provide leadership to assist all Nebraskans to obtain health insurance.

I have lived in District 26 for 23 years with my wife, Becky, and we have raised three daughters, all honor students, who have attended the neighborhood schools and Northeast High School.

As President of the University Place Business Association, I have worked with the major stakeholders in Northeast Lincoln, including: the University of Nebraska East Campus; Nebraska Wesleyan University; the University Place Community Organization; Huntington Elementary School; area business and property owners; and City officials in the Urban Development, Public Works and Planning Departments to imporove the North 48th Street corridor. The visible achievements of my brokerage activities and real estate leasing include attracting, leasing to, or placing the following businesses currently in Northeast Lincoln: the Junior League Thrift Shop; Fashions by Allens; Ashley Penington Dance Arts; Megabase Research; MoJava Cafe; Lincoln Police Department Northeast Team Sub-station; Bel Canto Home Furnishings; SaHaira; the Train Cellar; Cash for Less; Chun Do Kwan Tae Kwan Do; Hairport Salon; Quik-T Printing; BBQ4U; and the sale of the Northeast Printers building and the Legionairre Club. I have brokered many other residential and commercial transactions throughout Lincoln and Omaha. I currently rent a home to a family displaced by the Katrina hurricane, who was unable to pay the rent or a deposit for several months while waiting for assistance from the Red Cross and others.

I am pro-life, pro-family, and if you are a voter in District 26, please vote for me on May 9th.

Thank you,

Steve Guittar.
