I believe that there need to be reviews of the different agencies within HHS to see where they can be more efficient and try to eliminate duplications of services. I also think there needs to be better monitoring of the people getting the services to try to make them independent instead of dependent on the state.

| Candidate Statement | I am eager to represent the 48th District in the Unicameral. Having been born and raised on a farm here in Scotts Bluff County I know what hard work and dedication are all about. I am the first in my generation to graduate from college and my wife Barb and I chose to return to Gering after the military because we wanted to be near family and knew that this would be a wonderful place to raise a family. As a result, our three sons are all married and two of them live here and the third one will be moving here in June when he gets out of the Air Force. He also is a dentist.
I am a firm believer in Nebraska and believe that the Unicameral was meant to have ordinary people in it who have the best interests of the State as their motive for serving. I have no political agenda but feel that with my broad range of experience I would be a good representative. I have my core values but I am willing to listen to all sides of an issue and then make a decision that I feel is in the majority's best interest.
I have served in the military, have run a successful dental practice, have been on a school board, have served my profession on the state level, have been involved with the chamber of commerce, have been active in my church and still have farming interests. I bring a wealth of experiences that I feel would serve me well as a member of the Unicameral. | Dr. John Harms of Western Nebraska Community College said his biggest fear is that we all are going to face declining enrollments and a need to re-tool and restructure to meet that environment in the next decade. Harms believes that partnerships are one of his top priorities. He said that Rural America is going to struggle in the next decade as population shifts to urban areas.
